About the Archive
Content
Over time, the Russian-language newspaper changed its title several times, first to ‘Krest’janskij put’‘ (or “Krest’ianskii put”’, 1925-1927) and then to ‘Sovetskaja Kirgizija’ (or ‘Sovetskaia Kirgiziia’, 1927-1991). In 1961, the medium was awarded the Soviet ‘Order of the Red Banner of Labour’, the third highest decoration in the Soviet Union. The daily circulation reached 132,000 copies in 1975.
With the end of the Soviet Union and the political independence of Kyrgyzstan, the newspaper has been published under the name ‘Slovo Kyrgyzstana’ (‘Word of Kyrgyzstan’) since 1991. During this time, it noticeably lost its significance for the entire former Soviet Union. In the 2000s, the medium had a drastically reduced circulation of around 6,000 copies.
