Digitisation enables broad, location-independent access to primary and secondary literature, research data and other research materials. Accordingly, digital material is also increasingly referenced in Middle Eastern studies publications. While consistent citation forms for printed sources are an integral part of academic publishing, similar standards for digital material have not yet been fully established in Middle Eastern disciplines. A particular challenge when referencing digital material is the volatility of the World Wide Web and the associated ‘dead’ links.
Permanent identifiers such as DOI, URN or ORCiD offer the opportunity to meet these new challenges.
The FID Middle East offers a one-hour workshop to all interested parties that will focus on these challenges and the use of permanent identifiers in citation and referencing. The workshop is particularly aimed at researchers who are currently preparing a publication, as well as publishers and editors.
